Heritage Credit Union recognizes the importance of our responsibility in protecting the private information of our members. We want to protect the personal and financial information that you have entrusted to us. Therefore, we developed an Internal Policy titled Customer Privacy that respects and addresses your needs by requiring credit union officers, board members, committee members and employees to treat your personal information with strict confidence. We believe that all personal and financial information specific to you that you provide to the credit union, through any medium, constitutes private personal information.
Collection of Personal Information
1. We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:
a. Information we receive from you on applications or other forms such as your name, address, social security number, assets, and income.
b. Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates or others such as your account balance, payment history, parties to transactions and credit card usage.
c. Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency such as your credit-worthiness and credit history.
We may retain this information so we can provide the products and services you request. Our operating partners, if any, may also handle some of this information and, if so, they will be required to abide by our policy.
2. If you request electronic services, we retain certain information relative to the service. This enables us to process and confirm your transaction request.
3. If you send us e-mail, we will retain the content of the e-mail, your e-mail address and our response in order to assure we have adequately addressed your inquiry and to handle any follow-up questions you may have. We may also use it to measure how effectively we address your concerns.
Use and Sharing of Personal Information
1. The credit union will use personal information as appropriate in the normal course of conducting our business to provide the products and services you requested. We will also use this information to provide positive identification when you contact us.
2. We will not disclose information to third parties (excluding credit union affiliates) concerning your account with us except
(a) when such disclosure is necessary to complete transactions with us;
(b) to verify the existence and condition of your account for a third party (such as a credit reporting agency) as is permitted by law and the Fair Credit Reporting Act;
(c) to comply with any court order or applicable laws or regulation; or
(d) when you give us your written permission.
3. The credit union does not and will not sell or provide personal information to third parties for independent use. We may, however, share personal information with our credit union affiliates as allowed by federal law if that information is required to provide a product or service you have requested.
Accuracy of Personal Information
1. The credit union intends to exercise reasonable procedures in order to assure the accuracy of our records and your personal information. Inaccurate information, when brought to our attention, will be corrected as promptly as possible. If you have any questions regarding the accuracy of your personal information, please call a credit union representative or write us at PO Box 80213, Lafayette, Louisiana 70598.
2. We request that you keep your personal information as current as possible so that you may get the maximum benefit from the credit union. In particular, please make sure that you inform us
of any residence or e-mail address change or telephone number change so that we may communicate with you when necessary. You have the right to review this information at any time to ensure that your records are complete and accurate.
Protection of Personal Information
1. The credit union exercises reasonable caution regarding the handling of personal information. Facsimile transmissions are received at and sent from a proprietary machine located in the credit union office. Information received is discreetly handled to prevent perusal by a casual observer.
2. Protecting your privacy is an ongoing process. We will continue to review the measures we take to safeguard your personal information. These reviews will result in new measures to protect member information as the credit union makes changes to its information security practices and other internal control systems to take advantage of new technology.
Confidentiality and Security
1. We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who need to know the information in order to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your nonpublic, personal information
